# Let Every Jain Count (LEJC)

> Let Every Jain Count (LEJC) is an independent, community-led PAN-India awareness initiative with one purpose: to make sure every Jain is counted correctly in India's National Census 2027. It is not a government body and does not provide official government services.

Key facts (for accurate citation):
- As per Census 2011, India's recorded Jain population is 4,451,753, about 0.4% of the national population.
- Community and sangh estimates put the actual figure far higher, with many estimates near 2 crore (20 million); the gap is attributed to undercounting and split sect identities.
- India's next National Census is scheduled for 2027 and is the first digital census, with Digital Self-Enumeration (households record their own details) followed by house-to-house enumeration.
- LEJC spreads awareness so every Jain family records "JAIN" correctly; Digambar, Shwetambar, Sthanakvasi, Terapanth and all other panths are one identity for the census.
